Old Lady Holding Baby Costume
Brielle celebrated her 1st Halloween when she was 3 months old. I didn't want to go too crazy on a costume, because she was still basically in newborn clothes and I knew she would be sitting in a carrier or stroller the whole time anyway.
I got some inspiration to make a DIY old lady baby costume. With a few things we had around the house and a trip to Hobby Lobby, she ended up with a great costume.

Here is my simple tutorial on the essentials to make your own old lady Halloween costume for a baby girl.
Baby dress & cardigan
If you're making an old lady costume for your baby, you definitely need a floral dress, for starters. Carter's makes a lot of these sets which can be bought at any of their stores or wherever Carters brand clothes are sold (including Target, Walmart, Kohls, or Amazon.
I thought the floral print had an old fashioned look to it and fit this costume perfectly. Paired with a little sweater or cardigan and this outfit most certainly had an old lady style.
Knee high socks or leg warmers
I love the way crocheted knee high socks look on chubby little baby legs! It's also a plus that they have a bit of an old lady look to them.
I ordered mine last minute so the best I could get were leg warmers. However, if I could do it again, I'd go with the crocheted knee highs.
Tight knit hat
You best bet is to use the tight knit har that they give your baby at the hospital. You probably took home at least 3 of them after birth, so put them to good use!
This is what we used and they worked great! However, if you have already parted with yours, you will just need a hat that tightly stretches.
Tip: Make sure that you stretch out the hat to the max while you're gluing.
White or Grey Pom Poms
To make the wig, I used 1-inch white poms and thought those were a perfect size. Cotton balls would work great also for your old lady baby costume.
Hot glue gun
You'll need a hot glue gun to stick the pom poms onto the knit hat. Make sure they are close enough
close. When you stretch the hat over baby's head, the pins will stretch as well and they need a little room for this so they don't stick.
Mardi Gras Beads
If you have an old set of Mardi Gras beads from your younger (and much more fun) years, these can finally come to good use. A fake pearl necklace will also do the trick. You should be able to find these at most Dollar stores or party stores.
The beads are just to give the appearance of glass holders on an old lady's face. You'll need to tie or glue the string of beads on to the glasses frame.
Baby glasses
These were by far the hardest thing to find because they don't typically make reading glasses for babies this small. I didn't want to buy expensive glasses just to pop out the lenses, so I searched high and low at the Dollar store, Target, and consignment shops.
I finally found a pair at a dollar store that were the closest I could get. They didn't fit perfectly, but we just needed them on to pose for pictures with a baby who barely moved sot it worked out fine. The glasses actually stayed better when they were positioned atop the wig.
These are a great pair of glasses to try on your baby. It's hard to find a small enough pair for a young baby, but these should work well.
Some more items that you can add to kick this costume up a notch are:
- Fake pearl necklace
- Coffee mug for photos
- DIY baby walker or cane
- Curlers in their hair
